Colchester Royal Grammar School Association threw their biennial May Ball on Friday 1st May in the Le Talbooth restaurant next to the beautiful river Stour in Dedham. The evening begun when guests were greeted by the CRGS Jazz band playing on the lawn. Despite the chill in the air, the musicians were superb and guests could only be drawn into the marquee by the promise of more music from the equally magnificent CRGS String Quartet.

175 parents and supporters of Colchester Royal Grammar School attended the evening which included a fund-raising auction conducted by Jonathan Benson of Colchester-based Auctioneers & Valuers, Reeman Dansie. The highlight of the auction was an original drawing of Monty Python’s ‘Mr Creosote’ signed by both the costume designer - three times Oscar winner, Old Colcestrian Jim Acheson, and Terry Jones - the original Mr Creosote in ‘The Meaning of Life’. The evening raised a tremendous £12,000 which monies will be used to improve the projection facilities in the school hall and buy a few much-needed bag racks.
