Physical Education

The department consists of three full-time staff that have a variety of roles appertaining to the school. The PE staff are supported by a number of teachers from other departments. The school’s sporting facilities include a gymnasium, swimming pool as well as outstanding playing fields and a hard court area with three tennis courts.

The department aims to provide students with a broad and balanced curriculum with the traditional sports of rugby and cricket being the ‘major team sports’ .Tennis, athletics, hockey, football, basketball, swimming, gymnastics and fitness activities compliment these areas. Students in Years 11, 12 and 13 also benefit from being able to utilize the facilities at Colchester Leisure World.

Students are encouraged to work hard within their lessons and expand their knowledge and skills in the extra curricular programme. Extra curricular provision is varied and all students have the opportunity to participate at their own level in both competitive and recreational activities.

A full programme of inter-school fixtures exists in rugby, cricket and football with opportunities to perform competitively at the highest level in other sports. Students also have the opportunity to participate in inter-house sport in a variety of activities.

Successes range from local and regional to national and even international level.

The department offers A Level examinations at sixth form level.

Sport provides students within the school the opportunity to excel on a national stage as well as creating friendships and team spirit which transcends throughout the school.
