On Wednesday 24th January, three students participated in the Intermediate Rotary Youth Speaks public speaking competition, which was held at Colchester Town Hall.

Naren Shanmugam (Year 8), Miles Black (Year 7) and Kasim Manzoor (Year 7), carried out their roles brilliantly as Speaker, Vote of Thanks and Chairperson respectively. Miles gave a speech named ‘Planet Plastic – What on Earth?’. During his address, Miles explored the many problems that are created when we throw away plastic, and highlighted that we should all be aware of the amount of plastic we are using.

All three students spoke articulately and should be commended for giving such a strong performance. At the end of the evening, it was announced that CRGS had won both awards – Best Speaker and Best Team. Congratulations to the boys who now proceed to the next round, which will be held in Chelmsford in March. We wish them all the very best of luck!
