1. Introduction

CRGS 16-19 Bursary Fund 2023-2024

The 16-19 Bursary Fund exists to help students from low income families with some of the costs involved in taking a Sixth Form course (e.g. travel, field trips, visits, books and equipment).

2. Eligibility

Students are eligible for this Bursary if they are under 19 years of age on the 31st of August in the academic year in which they start their programme of study and fall into one of the groups below:

Group 1: Priority students who are in care, are care leavers, who receive Income Support in their own right, or who are disabled young people receiving both Disability Living Allowance and Employment Support Allowance/Universal Credit.

Group 2: Students who are eligible for Free School Meals, or whose household income is less than £32,000 per year.

Eligible students in Group 1 will receive £1,200 per year. Eligible students in Group 2 will receive less than this, as remaining funds are limited. Funds will be allocated according to need.

Payments will be made termly into the student’s own bank account and will depend on attendance and effort. Payments will only be authorised if:

• the student has a satisfactory behaviour record
• the student has a satisfactory attendance record (e.g. all absences have been authorised by the school and, in the case of medical/dental appointments or university visits, the school has been notified in advance of absences)
• the student is making satisfactory academic progress (e.g. completing set work on time and to an acceptable standard)

3. Applications and assessment

Completed application forms, which can be printed out from the below and are also available from Reception, should be received by Mrs Tompkins (email: jtomkpkins.co.uk ) in the school office by Friday 20th October 2023. Applications must be accompanied by evidence of household income, as specified on the application form and, if expenses have already been incurred (e.g. travel to school, clothing), copies of receipts.

Students and parents should make every effort to ensure that the information given on the form is correct. The school will take strong action if a student is found to have made fraudulent claims (e.g. they will be required to refund any payments received and will be liable to disciplinary action).

The school will aim to treat all information relating to applications sensitively and confidentially.

4. Appeals

Students may appeal against decisions made in relation to their application for a bursary or the withholding of payments. They should first raise their concern with Mr Harvey, Head of Sixth Form. If not satisfied with the response, they should write to the Headmaster.
