A level success at Colchester Royal Grammar School

John Russell, Headmaster of Colchester Royal Grammar School comments,

“The 2023 cohort were an outstanding group of students and they should be applauded for their efforts and tenacity.  We are delighted and very proud of the excellent results that they have achieved, results which rank as the best in the history of our school’s rich history for any year where the grades boundaries have not been adjusted due to Covid. In fact, over three quarters of grades achieved were at A or A*.

“Over 100 students achieved straight A*A grades with many achieving all A* to their name. In turn, this has facilitated successful applications, with many going to Oxford, Cambridge or other Russell Group universities, as well as successful applications to study in America and Hong Kong. We also have a growing number of students who are also going on to high level apprenticeships in a variety of interesting careers, such as finance and engineering.

“A school, however, is about much more than just results. The students we say farewell to today have given so much to the spirit and ethos of CRGS, leaving a lasting legacy. They will go on to make a real and positive impact in the professions they enter and the communities they live and work in.

“These results are also a real team effort. Once again, the staff have committed much time to support our students and to offer enrichment well beyond the academic curriculum, developing true intellectual curiosity that flourishes through our very broad curriculum - with exceptional results in the classics, music, art, physical education and a range of modern languages, alongside our other A levels.

“We are proud to be a very diverse school, with all individuals supported and nurtured to achieve their best. That is why the atmosphere of the sixth form at CRGS is so very special.”
