Science in Year 7

All students joining the school study the AQA Activate Science course, which continues through into Year 8 Biology, Chemistry and Physics courses.

Students are taught for three hours per week in a dedicated science laboratory by the same teacher to maximise familiarisation with the content and to allow the teacher to fully monitor the progress and transition of students from Year 6.

The aims of the course are:

  • To foster an interest in and awareness of the world around them, and to have enjoyment in studying science;
  • To ensure students are well placed to begin study of the individual sciences in Year 8, and to commence studying the GCSE Science syllabus in Year 9, leading to either the individual sciences courses or the Combined Sciences course at GCSE.
