John Russell, Headmaster, Colchester Royal Grammar, comments:

“The 2023 GCSE cohort were an outstanding group of students and should be congratulated for their focus and support for each other. They were a pleasure to work with and have grasped every opportunity that has come their way - inside and outside of the classroom.

“The grades they have secured are testament to the young people they are becoming. Not only are they hugely talented and dedicated, but the support they have shown each other and the sense of community they have created has been heartening. We are delighted with the result they have achieved which, at the top end, rank as the best the school has seen. In fact, over two thirds of grades achieved were the top grades possible, at grade 9 or 8.

“Twenty-six students achieved straight 8/9 grades with a number with all 9s to their name. A vast majority will now move into our Sixth Form, and we look forward to inspiring them further next year.

“It is also important to recognise the efforts staff have gone to help guide and inform our students as they have navigated some unique challenges as we continue to respond to the post pandemic era.

“I am delighted for these students and wish them the very best for the future.”
