Catering Assistant

Salary: LGPS 2 points 3-4 - £14,363-£14,588 per annum actual annual salary (£24,796-£25,185 FTE)

Our friendly and supportive Catering team are looking to appoint a Permanent Part-time Catering Assistant to help prepare and serve food and beverages, as well as maintain a clean, hygienic kitchen and restaurant.

The role would suit someone who is passionate about cooking, who would like to work in Catering but with more sociable hours during term time. The successful applicant will have an enthusiasm to learn and be good at working as part of a busy team, helping them to prepare high quality, nutritious food from scratch to an excellent standard.   

Experience of working in a kitchen, retail or cleaning environment is desirable but not essential. Training and support will be provided.

We offer a friendly, professional work environment with an experienced team and a contributory pension.

The working pattern is between 9.30am and 2.30pm Monday to Friday, term time only, including inset days, with additional hours for ad hoc events.

Physical Education – Resident Trainee PE Teacher

Required for September 2026 to July 2027

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to train at one of the country’s leading selective schools, (awarded The Sunday Times Parent Power East Anglia State Secondary School of the Decade and The Sunday Times State Secondary School of the Year for Academic Excellence East Anglia 2026), alongside having residential boarding responsibilities. Colchester Royal Grammar School is a leading UK state school for boys aged 11-18 and girls 16-18 with an international reputation for academic excellence.

Working in conjunction with the University of Buckingham, we are looking for an exceptional graduate to train as a PE teacher through their PGCE programme whilst living and working in our boarding community.  Successful candidates will assist the Head of Boarding with the supervision and pastoral care of boarders during the week and be part of the weekend duty rota.

Candidates should ideally have a sports-related degree and relevant teaching or coaching work experience.  The major boys sports of the school are rugby, cricket, athletics and football, and relevant experience in these areas is highly desirable. There is also the potential to run the senior girls netball team so relevant experience in this area would also be highly valued.

This position is salaried and includes accommodation, meals and the tuition fees for the PGCE at the University of Buckingham. Alongside boarding duties and a training timetable, candidates are expected to be a part of the PE team and fully contribute to the extensive extra-curricular programme including Saturday fixtures predominantly in the Autumn and Summer Terms. The successful candidate may need to attend relevant training to assist with their boarding duties, such as first aid, good hygiene and additional safeguarding training.

Weekend Boarding Cook

Required as soon as possible

20 hours per week on Saturdays and Sundays

9.30am – 8pm each day

33 weeks per year (term-time only)

Salary: £10,025 actual salary (depending on experience)

(Scale 3, Points 5-6, Local Government Scale, £25,583 - £25,989)

An exciting opportunity has arisen in one of the country’s leading selective schools, (awarded The Sunday Times Parent Power East Anglia State Secondary School of the Decade and The Sunday Times State Secondary School of the Year for Academic Excellence East Anglia 2026).

This is a unique and rewarding position with sole responsibility for the preparation, cooking and service of dinner for up to 35 boarders and duty staff. This person will have the skill set to follow an agreed menu and recipes, as well as have knowledge of health and safety and food hygiene regulations. We are open to applications from candidates who have experience of cooking meals from scratch and who want to develop their skills in a welcoming and supportive kitchen.

In addition to the advertised 20 hours across weekend, there is the option to take up to a further 4 hours on a Friday, negotiable for the right candidate.
