About Us

Join Us! The next CRGSA meeting takes place on Tuesday 8th November at 7.45pm in the school library. It is open to all so do please come along, meet some other parents and find out more about CRGSA. We aim to complete all business by 9.30pm.

Please also note that you do not have to come to meetings to be a member or help out with CRGSA. So much can be achieved by e-mail these days that as long as you are contactable by e-mail and have some time and inclination to help, you're in! Do please get in touch and let us know where your interests/talents lie and you too can make a hugely welcome contribution to our fundraising.

80's Night

CRGSA 80s Night

'Come on Eileen, Never gonna give you up, I wanna dance with somebody...'

The 80's "electrified" the CRGS main hall on the 15th of October. The music, the decorations, the lighting, everything screamed of the 80's. And the guests who turned up in their amazing neon tutus/leg warmers/costumes added to the vibrant atmosphere. A huge thanks to our committee member Debbie Hoy for coming up with the idea of this fun-filled event. Vaughan, our DJ for the night, did a fabulous job too with his choice of music, and made sure it was a non-stop dance-a-thon! We had lots of fun and even though this was not primarily a fundraising event, we made a profit of £743 too!  Thanks to all who helped on the night to make it a success- Angela, Brendon, Joanne, Diana and a special thanks to our very own headmaster, Mr Russell for helping us clear up efficiently.

Thirtieth CRGSA AGM

The 30th Annual General Meeting of the CRGSA took place on Tuesday, the 11th of October, in the school library. It was well attended and many new faces were spotted, which is always a good sign. This means that as we lose some members every year when their son/daughter move on, we have new people to take their place and continue our fundraising efforts for the school. We said goodbye to Susan Devereaux, who has led the CRGSA for the last three years, and also to our Secretary Helen Andrews. Both of them have freely given their time and effort towards the smooth running of the CRGSA and the committee members expressed their gratitude and wished them both well for the future. Sunita Mena(Bhuyan) took over as the new chairperson. The AGM was followed by the usual CRGSA meeting, where upcoming events and ideas were discussed. The secretary’s position is still vacant, so if you think this could be you, please get in touch. Our next meeting is on the 8th of November at 7.45 in the school library, do feel free to drop by and say hello!

Year 7 Social

Joining high school can all be very exciting and nerve racking at the same time with new environment, new friends and new routines. For the past few years, the CRGSA has been organising a year 7 social for the boys and their parents. It is a wonderful opportunity for the new parents to socialise with other parents in the same year. This year, the year 7 social was organised on the 7th of October in the main hall and it was another successful evening. Over drinks and nibbles, the new year7 parents were soon happily holding conversations and swapping contact details. Many were also seen to be busy in setting up WhatsApp groups. Unlike primary school, parents in high school do not congregate outside school gates to swap stories and keep up with what was going on in their child’s life in school. The new parents thanked the CRGSA for giving them this opportunity to keep in touch with others in the same boat. This was not a fundraising event and the money raised from the sale of raffle tickets went to cover the costs of the evening.

Autumn Fayre

The CRGSA Autumn Fayre this year was yet again a perfect sunny snapshot of a community get together for pupils (past, present & future), parents, CRGS teachers and staff, the Old Colchestrians and the wider CRGS support community.

We were spoilt for highlights this year - the choir were singing their hearts out, followed by skilled piano players at the Hall and to top it up the young Shakespearean group - making sure that the archaic perceptions were dusted off & the Shakespearean words and emotions were made relevant to today's audience. The Year 8 boys, as part of the D & T summer homework, invented and built their own colourful Shakespearean sideshows which helped to raise funds for CRGS. The CRGSA games were enthusiastically managed by Yr7s, Yr9s and older. Thank you to the buskers and their enthusiasm - you brought in the "zing" and many a smile to the day !

The Fayre and other events are as much about bringing the CRGS community together, having a great day and also fundraising. The best news is that we made a total profit of over £7,000 !! The uniform section was in top form and made an additional £750 on the day! Thanks to Reny Oommen who organised this event this year. A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who baked a cake, sizzled a burger, built a stall, bought a raffle ticket, sold a raffle ticket and joined in on the day. Yes, we ARE looking for a new Autumn fayre team. Apply within!
