Sixth Form Team Through to Public Speaking Final

Posted On: 20/10/17

Two teams from CRGS participated in the English-Speaking Union East Region Sixth Form Public Speaking Competition, which was held at Colchester English Study Centre on Thursday 19th October.

Team 1 comprised of Harry Hesketh-Paterson as Chairperson, Jennifer Herman as Questioner and Gorak Rajesh as the Speaker. Gorak gave a speech on the importance of learning languages and delivered it with considerable ease and wonderful expression. Alfred Riddell (Chairperson) and Mathilda Owen (Questioner) formed Team 2 with Emily Wright who spoke on the topic ‘Taxing Sins’ and gave an interesting and thought-provoking speech.

There was strong opposition from six other teams at different schools across Colchester and North Essex. After much deliberation from the adjudicators, Team 2 came runner up in the competition, with King Edward VI Grammar School winning overall. Both CRGS and KEGS have progressed through to the final, which will take place at Felsted School on Thursday 30th November. We wish Alfred, Mathilda and Emily the very best of luck.
