Over 80% of all GCSE results graded at 7 or above at Colchester Royal Grammar School

Staff and students were celebrating at Colchester Royal Grammar School today – with more students securing the very top grade than in any pre-Covid year.

In total, nearly 40% of all exams sat achieved a 9, with 83% of all exams securing a 7 or above.

John Russell, Headmaster, said: “We are delighted with the achievements of our students at GCSE, who are all to be congratulated and applauded for their performance.

“Central to their success is the efforts and determination they have shown through what has been such a turbulent few years. Each individual has thrived as they have taken on the challenge of GCSEs, but what is more important is that they have also been there to support on another. The sense of community has been palpable, which is why it has been so heartening to see our students celebrating together today.

“It would also be wrong not to acknowledge the care and support shown by our staff. Given what these students have faced, every colleague has really gone above and beyond to try and help our students achieve the impressive results we know they are capable of.”

The GCSE results are expected to put CRGS amongst the top performing schools in the country, building on the fact that The Times ranked CRGS as one of the top 10 performing state schools in the country for A level performance last week.

Mr Russell added: “While exams recognise academic achievement, what they cannot quantify is the team effort that sits behind every grade awarded. The partnership between student, home, and school is so important, and is the foundation stone on which our students can perform.

“We wish all our students happiness and success in the next stages of their education.”
